Brief Bio

Seth David Rubin is a photographer and educator celebrated for his innovative, experimental approach to photography. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, to American artist parents, Rubin grew up in a multiracial environment that shaped his exploration of identity and transformation. He began taking photographs at age eleven and later earned art degrees from Bard College and Yale University. In college, Rubin developed "performances for the camera," using his body to explore transformation themes. His recent works feature mirror and glass installations photographed on-site, fragmenting familiar forms and merging reality with abstraction. Rubin's photography has been exhibited in notable galleries, including Gallery Kayafas in Boston, Yancey Richardson in New York, and The Photographer’s Gallery in London. His work is included in museum collections like the Addison Gallery of American Art and Yale University Art Gallery. Rubin currently teaches photography at SUNY Ulster College and Clark University.
